Facility End Use: Public Archives Renovation or New Construction: New Construction Completion Date: February 2005
Project Details: The new $28.5 million Southeast Regional Archives in Morrow, GA, is a division of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), the preserver of United States federal government documents for public use.The facility maintains historical records from regional offices of federal agencies in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North and South Carolina and Tennessee. It is open to academic researchers and casual browsers alike.A Cambridge Architectural MeshDefense system was installed around an outdoor amphitheater and patio. The architect chose the Infinity metal fabric pattern, supported by U-Frame attachment hardware, because it complies with anti-terrorism regulations for new construction that limits the acceptable size between fence links. Some of the items held by the 115,000 square-foot Southeast Regional Archives include immigration records from settlers in the 1790s, Al Capone’s draft card from World War I and maybe even your family tree.
