The external stair tower screen is an example of how an architectural mesh facade element installed as a building tension system can be incorporated into a building design to allow natural light and air circulation in a space. This same space, if clad with other building products like architectural louvers, architectural grilles and screens, and other facade wall panel systems would require electric daytime lighting and potentially an exhaust system for air movement. In this project, the stair tower required external placement. With metal fabric panels installed as a building tension system, only minimal electric daytime lighting was needed and provided enough open area in the material to qualify as an open structure.
