Cambridge Architectural has developed a new 1-credit hour AIA Continuing Education System (CES) course which details the solar control, energy reduction and LEED® contribution capabilities of architectural mesh shading systems.
Shading: A Daylighting Strategy for Sustainable Buildings explains how controlling natural light with metal fabric decreases building energy consumption and promotes whole-building energy savings. The course also focuses on daylighting optimization, preservation of outside views and how architectural mesh shading systems can contribute to LEED project certification for new construction or major renovation projects.
The new course describes applicable LEED credits in detail, offering the credits' intents and why mesh can help. Architectural mesh shading systems can contribute to the following LEED categories: Sustainable Sites, Energy & Atmosphere, Materials & Resources and Environmental Quality. The system's sustainable functions allow it to contribute to as many as four LEED points for optimized energy performance, and can help in acquiring additional points for introducing daylight and views into the regularly occupied areas of a building.
Cambridge Architectural is an active member of the USGBC, and helps architects take maximum advantage of LEED credit through the many categories in which architectural mesh systems apply.
