Learn more about the Reservoir Woods Project
Cambridge Architectural recently outfitted the exterior of a newly constructed parking structure at Reservoir Woods, a 120-acre office complex in Waltham, MA, in glistening woven metal fabric.

Cambridge’s collaborative efforts with the architect, through their design-build process, played a vital role in the development of a successful strategy for the screening of the garage while meeting the project’s fixed budget and specific design concept.

The four-story, 871-space parking garage is cloaked in a breathtaking Parkade mesh solution. Cambridge’s Stripe pattern, which features an innovative mix of two Cambridge mesh patterns, was attached in tension with Eclipse attachment hardware to create the Parkade application. Cambridge was instrumental in pattern selection and layout of panels to maximize visual impact while reducing expense. Small framed panels were replaced with large panels in tension, dramatically reducing the cost of heavy structural supports and providing an increase in coverage of the facility within a fixed budget.

In addition to its intrinsic visual appeal, the metal fabric application is extremely functional. The openness of the metal fabric eliminates HVAC requirements, facilitates airflow and ensures visibility throughout the parking structure. The rugged, durable material is also resistant to scratches, denting and corrosion.

Additionally, the metal fabric system is a sustainable building product, featuring a high degree of recycled content, maintaining a long life-cycle and providing solar shading. As an added benefit, recent headlight testing results show that Cambridge Parkade metal fabric applications offer significant light pollution reduction when used as cladding for parking facilities.

The project architect, Spagnolo Gisness & Associates, also served as the architect for another Cambridge parking project in Providence, RI. Click here to read more about the project, a mixed-use facility called GTECH Center.
