Salvation Army Kroc Center
Phoenix, Arizona | Solar Shading
Rigid metal mesh panels perform solar shading for the center’s lobby, main atrium and Arizona’s largest aquatic center. The mesh installed in-tension and parallel to center windows facilitate day lighting while blocking the desert sun. A canopy system of flexible mesh provides shading from sunlight coming from above. Mesh can even be found on the cross atop the center’s steeple. The recycled metal products contribute to the building’s LEED Gold certification.
"The design of the Salvation Army Kroc Center required a unique shading system which helped to reduce heat gain and glare while allowing for south mountain views and permitting nighttime vision into the building that was aesthetically pleasing. Cambridge Architectural provided the material and system to meet the requirements the design team was looking for, and we are very pleased with the resulting application."
