Massive hospital project uses mesh for solar shading on four structures
University Medical Center New Orleans | New Orleans, Louisiana | Façade Solar Shading
One of the largest hospital construction projects in the U.S. in the 2000s, the modern facility unifies several older hospitals destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Different weaves of stainless steel mesh provide aesthetic appeal and solar shading to the glass and concrete curtain walls on three patient towers fronting downtown’s Canal Street. Floors 1-6 are clad with mesh panels, while angular fins reach above to the roof. Mesh panels also shade floors 1-5 of the medical center’s garage with custom-built fins adorning the south elevation extending to the helipad.
